Summer is in full swing and it’s time for Pimms, BBQs and water fights! But wait, we live in Britain. We have to contend with torrential showers at a minute’s notice. How on earth are you supposed to plan a garden party when the weather is so unreliable?!
Event Hire have a few tips to ensure you have the best outdoor party come rain or shine. Whether it’s setting up a party in your own back garden or planning a full-scale summer ball in a marquee, we have everything you need to make your event the best outdoor party yet.
British weather is renowned for being unreliable. There could be showers in the morning, sun in the afternoon and snow by the evening. We’re not saying you need to provide guests with umbrellas, sun cream and a scarf to combat this, but there are a few things that will help.
A gazebo is always a good option to provide cover over buffet tables, BBQs or DJ desks. They’ll keep the rain off the perishables and provide shade if you got lucky and it’s a stunning day. However, gazebos aren’t always the chicest option for a stylish summer party.
Dress it up with bunting or festoon lighting, perhaps a couple of lanterns or even some potted plants around the base of the legs. There’s lots of ways to glam it up and impress your guests, and whoever is in charge of the BBQ will thank you if it begins to rain.
If you’re planning to continue the party into the evening, people will need to rest their feet every now and then. Without emptying your entire living room into your back garden, you may find that you’ll run out of appropriate seating and next thing you know, Grandma is flying down the patio on your office chair.
Bean bags, hay bales and even some stylish inflatable furniture can all be fun options. But make sure you include something a little more sturdy and comfortable for any older guests. Event Hire have a wide range of furniture to hire, in case you’re wondering what you’d do with six beanbags and eight hay bales the next day! See our range of event furniture for more inspiration!
You can’t have a garden party without some games! Plus, it’s a great ice breaker, especially if you’re introducing different friend groups or family to one another. Team games are always good as they’ll get more people involved.
Some are really easy to set up and can be made using a lot of things you’ll already have. Whether it’s bobbing for apples or a game of beer pong. There’s lots of options and ideas out there. Just bear in mind people will more than likely be drinking so don’t choose anything with too many rules!
If you’ve got the space, then get out the badminton net for competitive fun or set up a game of croquet for a more civilised gathering.
If you’ve got a hefty list of guests you might feel the need to try and please everyone when it comes to what drinks you supply. Don’t. It will work out very expensive and you may be left with lots left over. Just let your guests know to bring their own booze or write ‘BYOB’ on the invite. That way they’ll all bring what they like and roughly as much as they’ll need for the party. Just be sure to provide lots of ice, cups, a few soft drinks and garnishes and something for yourself of course!
This also means you can get creative and fun with your drinks table or bar. Offer your guests a ‘Pimp your Prosecco’ station with fruity liqueurs, cordials and fruit garnishes to jazz up their own drinks. Not only is it a fun addition to the party people will love it and it’s so easy for you! Or why not fill that old wheelbarrow full of ice to chill drinks, a ‘Beer-barrow’ if you will. Plus, it means you get to keep some space in the fridge for all the food!
Seems obvious, right? But it’s easy to get pent up on the small details of the day. You have to stop worrying; your friends will come, there is more than enough potato salad, it will probably rain a little. But everyone’s coming together, the music is playing, kids laughing, prosecco popping and sausages sizzling. So get your glad rags on, take a big sip of your drink and have fun!
Event Hire have a huge range of event furniture and decor that are perfect for garden parties and BBQ’s. Whether it’s a couple of pink flamingos for the front garden, some fairy lights or lanterns or even a custom built tiki bar! We’ve got it all, and if you can’t find what you’re looking for, let us know because no doubt we can or we’ll build it for you!

Very helpful and gave great advice with a massive range of items to make our wedding special and look amazing
Mr Alex Fraser
Out of 10, Qube are an 11 on all fronts... :) Qube planned the entire wedding, which included 2 venues (synagogue followed by a 300-person dinner and dancing). Not only were the room designs and dressing for both venues sensational but the event went by seamlessly, with Debbie managing every element of the day to perfection. Couldn't have asked for a better day and, thanks to Debbie and Qube Events, even facebook friends who weren't there are stopping me to say how amazing it looked!
Mr Oz Shtrosberg
Debbie was great to work with, she really understood our vision and how to translate it into a beautiful wedding. The room was so beautiful it took our breath away and everyone commented on how gorgeous it was, it really captured the ambience we wanted for our special day.
Mrs Lucy Bolton (Glynn)

Mrs Sharon Niven
Debbie from Qube was fantastic from start to finish, she understood exactly what we wanted and the finished venue looked even better than we imagined. Communication was great and everything was done very professionally, it really took a lot of the stress out of the day.
Mrs Helen Coleclough (Morris)
3 months later and I am still recommending Qube Events to anyone that will listen! Debbie and her team are amazing and provide a gold standard service. They are flexible and can tailor their services to fit your requirements and budget. Debbie had so many ideas to share, and always found solutions to problems we faced. She can help you realise your dream 'look' working to whatever your limitations are (budget/room constraints). The room looked so beautiful and she did so much more than I asked
Mrs Tanya Solomons
Very professional, good understanding of our vision and needs for the day. Worked tirelessly through the day. Managed difficult outside suppliers and made the day run smoothly from start to finish, successfully masking the failings of our caterers. Made the ceremony room look phenomenal. Left us with some fabulous photographs and memories. Thanks to Debbie for all her hard work!
Mrs Parina Goricha
Debbie and the team at Qube did the most amazing job dressing my venue and providing my bouquets. They were so helpful and it was no problem at all when i needed to make a few changes. The room was exactly how i had pictured it and had so many comments from the guests. Fantastic company
Mrs Jodie Hogarth (Alexander)
Debbie and her team did an outstanding job. We were overwhelmed with just how stunning the venue looked and the attention to detail was incredible.
Mrs Dalya Shtrosberg (Goldstone)
Qube events and the team were expeditional from start to finish and even with my crazy bride ideas and requests and constant worrying! I was totally reassured and every email, text and phone call was answered. The day itself was amazing and very guest commented on the styling of the venue and how perfect it looked.
Mrs Paula Watson (Megitt)
When I started to plan my wedding from America I knew the wedding stylist I worked with would have a lot on their hands. I was planning my whole wedding from America that was going to take place in Manchester. I knew the stylist and I had to be on the same page as me. They had to be patient with me and work weird times of the day to make up for the time difference. I got the perfect wedding and more from Qube. Debbie and Heather did an amazing job and they listened to what I wanted.
Mrs Sunjee Dootson (Lee)
Qube Events provided the decor for my 7 day wedding. Being their first Asian wedding they far exceeded my expectations. My guests, including the priest were dazzled by the mandap they had created for me. The team had gone through the effort of building a mock up of each part of my decor for all the events at their warehouse. Nothing was ever too much for them. They were even helping on other aspects of the wedding which were not their responsibility. All the decor was spot on!!
Mrs Tulsi Shah (Pindolia)
My room looked amazing -thank you :
